he presented article is devoted to the problems of fears of modern youth and the difficulties associated with them in the educational sphere and vital activity in general. Our research is aimed at analyzing theoretical and methodological approaches to understanding the essence and origins of fears and phobias among students (using the example of the students of Vladivostok State University). Our appeal to this problem is due to the fact that it is the presence of fear that is one of the indicators of human experiences and threats; a reaction not only to real, but also potential dangers that threaten the physical and psychological state of an individual, value-semantic attitudes of his being. Fear as a reaction of readiness for a problematic situation can not only perform a protective function, but also it may cause ill-considered actions, including suicide. The paper examines the main types of fears, their causes and consequences for the lives of young people and academic success.
